WASHINGTON — BIO’s new CEO John Crowley is making changes.

He’s pivoting the biotechnology industry’s largest trade association away from a focus on controversial social issues. He dramatically restructured the organization and laid off around 30 employees to focus on new areas including vaccine education and women’s health.

But as a Republican who’s been floated as a candidate for elected office, his new focus on vaccine education could put him on a collision course with some in his own party. A leaked recording of President Trump this week depicted him expressing skepticism about childhood vaccines.
