Tranche is a French word meaning slice, and that’s pretty much what it means in the language of venture capital as well.
When a company raises a huge sum of money from venture capital investors — say $100 million — the company might only get a portion of that money, say $20 million dollars, until they reach another milestone, like starting a clinical trial.
