Chief Investigative Reporter, Data & Technology
Casey Ross is the Chief Investigative Reporter for Data and Technology at STAT. His reporting examines the use of artificial intelligence in medicine and its underlying questions of safety, fairness, and privacy. Before joining STAT in 2016, he wrote for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Boston Globe, where he worked on the Spotlight Team in 2014 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He was again a Pulitzer finalist in 2024 for a series of stories examining the use of an algorithm to deny care to desperately ill older patients. A Vermont native, he now lives in Ohio with his wife and three children, where he coaches hockey and baseball, and raises some of the sweetest bi-color in the Midwest.
